I'm quite ambivalent on the whole AI thing - mainly because I know that (like many authors) some of my novels have been pirated to train AI and that gives me major irrits. I get that there's value to it though. As I said, ambivalent.
Hello Lana! I was excited to download Betty to listen to her story and the narrator made it so PAINFUL for me that I returned the title. What the narrator did was add a lot of ‘her interpretation’ and ‘expression’ and it grated. Another reason I wanted to listen was Dad lived to 100, 6 weeks and 5 days and his final 3 years were HARD on him. So I have a bit of a negative thing about the so called glory of getting to the 100. That said, always glad to see your posts pop up and I can only imagine the convos in the household of Richard and Debra! Denyse x
Such an interesting perspective Denyse and I can see what you mean. I am currently in South Africa visiting my 88 year old father and his life is NOT good, not even a life really. Also get what you are saying about the narrator - it makes such a difference in an audiobook - it can really make or break it
Of course I meant to read this on the plane the other night and by the time I got on the plane I had completely forgotten to! I LOVED The Land Before Avocado so I’m hunting this one down on your rec.
Basically the way you are relevant is that you curate my entire year’s reading list so who needs AI when I have you ❤️
Love your opinion on AI, I refuse to engage or climb onto the train as I'm terrified it will take away my powers (whatever those are) I am still on the Steam engine train I'm afraid, but kind of like it that way for now.
I heard an interview with Debra Oswald on ABC radio, and the Betty book sounded fantastic, will give it a read.
PS; Can't wait to see Mike's self designed furniture xxx
Lana I so love you! I remind my kids constantly that I only got a calculator in year 9, and prior to that happening mental arithmetic in high school was extremely hard for me! Morale not helped by being middle of the class in a selective high school.
That recipe actually looks fab, even if the “still” is visually lacking.
I’ll put that book on my list - I appreciate your reviews.
